Quick story about my stolen computer. few days ago around 6pm, we went have a drink with a client after a meeting,  for about 45 minutes. When i got back to my scooter (Piaggio MP3 – If you own one, be careful) and opened the seat trunk, my bag had been stolen. How could this happen in the afternoon… MFCS how dare you !!? You could have left my notebook at least ! Anyway… I screwed up. Change your passwords and forget about this Jean. Or not ?

I finally remembered to have installed Mackeeper (people recommend preyproject.com) which could eventually locate my computer through its anti-theft software. I went online to activate it and prayed for it to work. Unfortunatly, nothing happened, i still dont know the reason. Anyway, after a while, i thought : ok, how do i connect remotely to my computer ? What online services do i use ? Google, MobileMe, Dropbox ? hmm, Dropbox ! Let’s see if this amazing software keeps logs of the locations ! You know what ? IT ACTUALLY DOES TRACK THE LAST LOCATION DROPBOX HAS BEEN USED FROM ! So here i am, getting the IP Address of that thief ! So could you if it happens to you one day.

Regarding my story, I went to the Police, which called the internet provider in order to get the precise location. They went there at 6am, waking up a whole family which had nothing to do with the robery ! Poor them… Indeed, the thief was connected to their box through a service called “Neuf Wifi”, which actually turns the box into a Hotspot. It means that the thief was using the computer a few meters away in another apartment around… And what did the police ? NOTHING.
